A skull, believed to be human, and a few bones have been unearthed at a construction site in Addo in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said the skull had been discovered by an excavation team on Friday that was busy digging the foundations for a school that was being built. They immediately notified police.
Swart said the site had been temporarily shut down while police collected several bones for further analysis. She said it was not a full body that had been uncovered.
“The bones are going to be taken to the forensic laboratory to be tested,” she said.
Swart said police would try various methods to determine the identity of the person. She added they were also going through missing persons reports.
She said an inquest docket had been opened.
